International Shellfish Festival, Lamborghinis, Anne of Green Gables, Cavendish Cliffs, Peak’s Wharf, Confederation, & Charlottetown

Confederation Bridge – Lynn and I both remembered when it was being built so it was pretty cool to be driving across it! πŸ˜€ πŸ€—

International Shellfish Festival – We just happened to discover that our plans would have us in PEI when this event was happening! Of course we bought tickets. What an experience! There was all kinds of Entertainment – Musicians, Story-telling, Cooking Demonstrations and Fishing-related Competitions. We bought our tickets to attend on Sep.16th, which as it turned out was the day Hurricane Lee hit the coast of PEI. Thankfully for us and for PEI, Lee was only classified as a tropical storm, so we saw a bit of rain and some wind with only short bouts of wind gusts.

The Chef in this cooking demonstration donated a copy of his cookbook to the festival for a draw. When we bought our tickets online for this event our names went into the draw and I won the cookbook! πŸ˜€

This was too funny because his barely willing ‘assistant’ there is a Mussel Farmer and the chef kept cracking jokes referring to his muscled, tattooed arms and his chosen occupation πŸ˜‚ They were pretty entertaining!! An almost unbelievable FACT we learned is that 80% of the WORLDS mussel supply comes from PEI πŸ˜³β—οΈ
This is the nice hard cover cookbook I won!
Apparently 2023 is the 60th anniversary of the Lamborghini so a bunch of them paraded into the Festival for our enjoyment the day we were there!

Part of this Festival included an annual International Chef Challenge cooking competition …. which I watched 😁 Some of you might be reading this now and thinking … wait, what?  Did she say Cooking Competition?!  Haha  I know … I had to giggle to myself as I sat there, thinking I might actually feel a little bad now about how I have in the past mercilessly mocked those who watched cooking shows on tv … saying things like β€œI can’t imagine anything more boring to watch on tv” 🀣   Maybe being there in person made the difference and now I’ve turned into a cooking show enthusiast!  I must say it was certainly interesting and entertaining to watch the chefs transform their ingredients into beautiful culinary creations that looked so pretty on the white plates … and competing for a $10,000 prize!

It was during this International Chef Challenge where we witnessed most of Hurricane Lee’s wind. The tent walls were flapping furiously as the winds picked up in the afternoon. They had event employees lined up along the tent walls holding the seams together while huge speakers suspended from the ceiling of the tent were swinging precariously overhead above the chefs and the audience! 😬 🫣

Anne of Green Gables – Millions of fans come to PEI every year to  visit the magical setting of this favourite novel. There are many places in Cavendish and throughout PEI that are dedicated to the author, L.M. Montgomery and the well-known main character, Anne Shirley. We drove past Anne Shirley Cottages, Montgomery Park, Kindred Spirits Motel … etc. etc. Lynn didn’t know what all the hoopla was about and why I was so excited to be here, but before we left he bought himself the Anne of Green Gables book to read!  😁 and I’m happy to report he’s actually loving it! Haha πŸ˜… Who knew 😁

These fruit/vegie stands were funny because they are run on an honor system – usually no one manning these stands; you just take what you need and put your money in the can. This particular stand actually had e-transfer though which we took advantage of πŸ€“
Maritime traffic lights πŸ˜† Red is square, yellow a triangle, and green round … interesting Haha
I could NOT pass up this t-shirt 🀣

Charlottetown – The birth place of Confederation. We spent our last PEI day here just wandering down the waterfront boardwalk, meandering through the streets and then through the harbour

Waterfront Boardwalk
Quite a display of opulence … Built in 1913 and designated as a National Historic Site in 1990
… no bibles in these pews? πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ
