Running South with winter on our heels!πŸ₯Ά

KENTUCKY (again) – Hiked way down into a huge Sink Hole in Mammoth Cave National Park … very cool

Waaaay down … a LOT of stairs!!
That little spec down there is me!

NASHVILLE, TN (again) – Cruising & Biking

Great smorgasborg meal, some talented entertainment, and then a lovely, slow cruise down the Cumberland River in the sunshine!

Biked over Cumberland Bridge through the Greenway along the Cumberland River and over John Seigenthaler Bridge (that we’d just cruised under the previous day) which connects East Nashville to downtown.

CHATTANOOGA, TN – Rock City was magical; Historic ‘Battle above the Clouds’; Road The Chattanooga Choo Choo; and we creeped on the Goonzquad YouTubers (Kelvin’s request)

ROCK CITY GARDENS – You can see 7 States from this viewpoint!
Fall must be the best time to experience the magnificent vistas from this mountaintop attraction! It was so much more beautiful and interesting than we expected!
The colors and the views from the top were just spectacular!
We had this place on our list to visit but were completely not prepared for what we saw here!
We stood there in complete awe of the of it all!
We spent a really fun afternoon here at this beautiful and magical place!

Incredible rock formations and designs, slot-type canyons, beautiful winding rock pathways, a wooden suspension bridge, waterfalls and fountains, lights, and cute little squirrels skittering everywhere.

Next day we road this historic Incline Railway up to visit a Civil War site in Point Park National Park

Point Park National Park – Site of the historic “Battle Above The Clouds”
New York Peace Monument between North & South
This battle took place on a cloudy day in November 1863. Coincidentally it was also a very cloudy day, 160yrs later when we visited this site – November 10, 2023. Interesting!
Beautiful view of Chattanooga and the wide U-shaped ‘Moccasin Bend’ in the Tennessee River

Of course we HAD to ride the Chattanooga πŸš‚ Choo Choo πŸ˜…

Beautiful scenic Fall train ride tour on a restored, authentic steam and diesel powered passenger train
over 3 trestle bridges and through a long horseshoe shaped 1858 tunnel – an absolute hoot!
There were so many cool old passenger train cars in the yard, all in different stages of repair and restoration

Then we disembarked at the other end and got to watch the engine turn around on a turntable before re-connecting the passenger cars for the trip back to the station. Very cool!

Goonzquad – Kelvin has been watching these two brothers on YouTube for a past few years. He asked, since we’re in Chattanooga – of course emphasizing “if you think you can be stealth” – maybe we could swing by their shop and take a picture for him. These two brothers started rebuilding wrecked cars in their parents garage and now have a successful company where they buy, rebuild, modify, and giveaway vehicles and film it all for YouTube

This is us failing at being ‘stealth’ as promised πŸ₯· πŸ€“ πŸ™ƒ
Some high-tech monitoring system started talking to me as I approached the fence Haha 😳 😬
Lynn got this picture out his window on our 3rd drive-by! Mission Accomplished!! 😎 These are the two brothers working on their current project which Kelvin watched on YouTube the next day!

PIGEON FORGE / GATLINBURG, TN – Did not realize this before we arrived here but these cities are FULL of activity and lights and so many people! Great for young families to go and spend a lot of money, but not really for us. We went on some interesting drives and a few nice hikes, but mostly we were thankful that we had splurged and booked a really great KOA with a beautiful pool and hot tub.

Clingmans Dome

Drove on this crazy, winding Blueridge Parkway road up to Clingmans Dome
Many cool tunnels and switchbacks!
Such spectacular views and colors! Looked like painted perfection!
Clingmans Dome Observation Tower – Highest peak in the Great Smokey Mountains – 6,643 feet!

KNOXVILLE, TN – because we had tickets to see Pam Tillis

Did a little walkabout downtown Knoxville while waiting for Pam Tillis concert to start
World’s Fair Park – former fairgrounds of 1982 World’s Fair in Knoxville
The Sunsphere – a 266-foot high hexagonal icon that served as a symbol for the World’s Fair
Got to see Pam Tillis in this cool old theatre
Historic Bijou-Theatre – built in 1909
We totally enjoyed the concert!

BIRMINGHAM, AL – Just a stopover on route to spend some time in GEORGIA – Nov.26th – Jan.9th Did a couple of beautiful Fall hikes in Oak Mountain State Park – Posting one here for y’all 😁
